A Tail-Wagging Success: Walk for Wags 2024

The crisp November air was filled with excitement as more than 100 attendees, 15 Service Dogs Alabama dogs, and a host of dedicated sponsors and volunteers gathered for the Walk for Wags on November 16. The event was a celebration of community, compassion, and the life-changing work that Service Dogs Alabama does every day.

Walking for a Cause
The heart of the event was the walk itself, a scenic journey around the Marcia Chambliss Walking Trail led by Grand Marshals Margaret and Jimmy Lowder.

Riding in a golf cart charmingly decorated to look like a dog, the Lowders set the pace for an uplifting day of connection and purpose. Participants strolled the trail at their own speed, enjoying the sense of camaraderie and shared mission.

Community Spirit Shines
As walkers returned to the main event area, the festivities were in full swing. The joy of the day extended far beyond the trail, with something for everyone to enjoy. Children lined up for face painting by our talented volunteers, emerging with colorful pawprints and puppy faces that matched their excitement. The tempting smell of freshly popped popcorn filled the air, while hot dogs from Peppertree Steaks and Wines and coffee from Royal Cup kept attendees refreshed and energized.

The laughter of children in the K&K Inflatables bouncy house mingled with upbeat music from DJ Rick Henrick, who kept the energy high with lively announcements. A 360-degree camera provided by K&K Inflatables captured the day’s most memorable moments, ensuring no smile went unnoticed.

The event was more than just fun—it was a resounding fundraising success! Together, we raised $68,610, with donations still coming in. If you’d like to contribute, it’s not too late—donations can be made at this link.

The Dogs Who Inspire Us

With service dogs actively assisting individuals, service dogs in training and facility dogs making a difference in schools and courtrooms, they showcased the transformative work made possible by events like Walk for Wags.
